Pakistan tightens airspace monitoring after regional escalation

2 min read

Following reported military developments involving Israel and United States in Iran, Pakistani authorities have directed enhanced monitoring of national airspace and regional flight corridors.

Air traffic controllers have been instructed to maintain strict surveillance over Pakistan’s borders, including the Iran–Afghanistan region. According to sources, Pakistani airlines have also been advised not to use Iranian airspace amid the evolving situation.

A spokesperson for the Pakistan Airports Authority stated that despite regional developments, Pakistan’s airspace remains fully operational and secure. The authority confirmed that all civil aviation operations are continuing normally without any reported delays or safety concerns.

Meanwhile, according to a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by Iranian authorities (A0715/26), Tehran airspace is closed to civilian aircraft from 11:30 to 17:00 Pakistan Standard Time. The temporary restriction typically limits east–west transit traffic during those hours.

Officials noted that if the restriction is extended beyond 1700 PKT, overflight traffic through Pakistani airspace could increase significantly, particularly during night hours, as airlines adjust long-haul international schedules to avoid closed routes.

Authorities emphasized that Pakistan’s air traffic control system is fully prepared to manage any changes in traffic flow and that operations remain stable. No disruptions have been reported so far.

In the broader regional context, media reports indicated that air strikes were carried out in Tehran, with claims of coordinated action involving the United States. Statements attributed to officials suggested the operations were planned in advance and aimed at addressing perceived security threats. Further developments are being closely monitored by aviation and security authorities.
