Following a disappointing campaign in the T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka’s head coach Sanath Jayasuriya has announced his resignation, with the match against Pakistan confirmed as his final assignment.
Jayasuriya initially took charge on an interim basis in July 2024. Under his leadership, Sri Lanka national cricket team achieved notable milestones, including a One Day International series victory over India national cricket team, their first against India in 27 years.
During his tenure, the team also recorded a Test win at The Oval against England national cricket team, marking Sri Lanka’s first Test triumph on English soil in a decade. Based on these performances, he was awarded a two-year contract on October 1, 2024.
Sri Lanka also completed a 2–0 Test series clean sweep over New Zealand national cricket team during this period. In the ongoing World Cup, the side won three consecutive matches to qualify for the Super Eight stage but suffered two early defeats, ending their hopes of reaching the semi-finals.
Further details regarding the next coaching appointment are expected from cricket authorities in the coming days.
