Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has described retaliation for the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other senior Iranian officials as a “duty and legitimate right” of Iran.
In a condolence statement, Pezeshkian said the Islamic Republic considers it its responsibility to pursue justice and respond to those allegedly responsible for what he termed a “historic crime,” including the individuals who ordered it.
He added that Iran would mobilize all available capabilities to achieve this objective. The president also extended condolences to the families of the deceased leaders and to the Iranian nation.
The remarks, delivered amid heightened regional sensitivities, have raised concerns about a potential escalation in tensions across the region, according to local media reports in Tehran.
