A special court hearing cases under the Official Secrets Act has sentenced four government employees to prison for leaking sensitive information, while acquitting two others due to lack of evidence.

Special Court Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra announced the verdict in the high-profile case. According to the judgment, accused Safdar Rehman was awarded 10 years’ imprisonment, while Tafzeel Rehman, Muhammad Waqar and Muhammad Tahir were each sentenced to five years in jail.

The court, however, acquitted accused Mujtaba and Muhammad Ashfaq, citing insufficient evidence to sustain the charges against them.

The case had been registered by the Federal Investigation Agency, which alleged that the accused government officials had shared sensitive information with a foreign embassy.
