China is closely monitoring developments regarding the situation in Iran and opposes the use or threat of use of force in international relations, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Thursday.

Speaking at a regular news briefing, Mao emphasized that China has always advocated resolving problems through political and diplomatic means.

“The peoples of China and Iran have a longstanding traditional friendship. China supports the Iranian government and people in safeguarding their national stability and legitimate rights and interests,” Mao added.

She further stated, “China hopes that all parties will cherish peace, exercise restraint and resolve differences through dialogue. China is willing to continue playing its role as a responsible major country in this regard.”
