This year the Republic of Azerbaijan marks the 34th anniversary of Khojaly genocide. On February 25 to 26, 1992, the various units of the Armenian armed forces along with its terrorist groups Karabakh and personnel of the 366th motorized infantry regiment of the former Soviet army deployed in Khankandi town of Azerbaijan unfortunately committed an act of gross genocide in Khojaly town of Azerbaijan.
According to many regional as well as international security experts it was a terrible crime against innocent humanity schemed by the then political leadership of Armenia. To show its immense solidarity and sympathy the government of Pakistan, parliament, Senate and people strongly condemned Armenian cruelty, genocide policies and especially human tragedy of Khojaly.
The Armenian offensive on Khojaly reportedly killed 613 citizens of Azerbaijan including 106 women, 63 children, and 70 elderly people and seriously injured 487 others.
Moreover, the missing of more than hundreds of common people that the Armenians captured during the massacre vividly reflects unforgettable pain which still haunts its state, society and the system. Additionally, eight families were completely wiped out, while 130 children lost one parent, and 25 children lost both parents during the human destruction.
A ruthless massacre of the Azeri people was also perpetrated in Shusha, Irevan, Zangazur, Karabakh, Nakhchivan, Kars and other regions clearly demonstrating the country wide extermination drive of Armenia against peaceful people of Azerbaijan.
Evidently, the enemies of humanity committed large scale atrocities on historical lands of Azerbaijan and burned schools and mosques and destroyed samples of material culture of Azerbaijan people.
Definitely, the fascist forces of Armenia committed genocides against Azerbaijan’s common people which had been dubbed by many international agencies as acts of deep darkness, massive destruction and indecency. It was an act of ethnic cleansing and siege of perpetual ignorance and madness. Armenia destroyed important infrastructures. It polluted nature and natural resources. It tried to change the existing geographic propositions in the illegally occupied areas of Azerbaijan.
On the other hand, surprisingly, it witnessed a new chapter in human bravery. Azerbaijan’s people courage fought with Armenian conspiracy, patience brawled with naked power, bravery confronted with brutality, honor coped with heinousness, and last but not the least, human dignity with destruction and ultimately superior human values of Azerbaijan’s people succeeded to win over the martial obsessions of Armenians.
It seems that Khojaly tragedy has direct correlation with human blood which is sacred and whosoever kills in the path of “right”, “virtue”, “noble/national cause” and above all struggle of independence is a valuable “martyr” and national and ancient history of Azerbaijan is blessed with unlimited unsung real heroes’ “martyrs” who laid down their precious lives for the dignity and honor of their country. Hence immense socio-economic prosperity, strong defense and regional supremacy is the resultant of these unlimited sacrifices of the people of Azerbaijan.
During Khojaly and series of genocides humanity was badly “bleed” and “beasts” were everywhere in different cities of Azerbaijan but it could not strike-down the true spirits of interfaith harmony, patriotism, national pride and communal unity and people having diversity of faith, belief and origin stood fast to fight against all odds. Cities were sieged and darkness was everywhere. Men were arrested. Media was blocked and the people were deprived of the right to access information.
Thanks to the resoluteness of Azerbaijanis people who did not “bow down” to the Armenian untamed martial force and stood fast. They fought with bravery and ultimately sacrificed their precious lives for the dignity and honor of their country.”
In summary, obviously it was indeed a blackest day in the modern history of human civilization and democratic norms during which innocent people of Khojaly were slaughtered and human survival became a draconian dream. The merchants of evil were involved in a massive massacre.
It seems that the high resolution of the people of Azerbaijan could not collapse against the Armenian wild martial force and collectively stood fast. They fought with gallantry and resultantly lost their precious lives for the dignity and honor of their beloved homeland which has now become beacon of multiculturalism, hub of trans-regional connectivity, icon of innovations, modernization, digitalization and ethnic diversity.
Last but not least it was a turning point in the political history of South Caucasus which ultimately changed the landscape of the region. Notwithstanding, visionary leadership of Azerbaijan and its brave armed forces succeeded to liberate the illegally occupied areas from Armenia and now both countries have become partners of regional peace, stability and harmony but grief of Khojaly human tragedy is still alive in the hearts of Azerbaijan people.
