ICC revises T20 World Cup semi-final schedule

2 min read

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revised the schedule for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026, introducing conditional venue arrangements based on the qualification of specific teams.

According to a communication circulated to stakeholders after the conclusion of the Super Eight stage, the venue for the first semi-final will depend on whether Pakistan or Sri Lanka secure a place in the last four.

As per the updated arrangement, if Pakistan qualify for the semi-finals, they will play Semi-final 1 in Colombo on March 4. In case Pakistan fail to qualify but Sri Lanka advance and are not facing India, Sri Lanka will feature in the first semi-final in Colombo.

The ICC stated that the first semi-final could be staged either in Colombo or Kolkata, subject to the outlined conditions. If neither Pakistan nor Sri Lanka reach the semi-finals, Semi-final 1 will be played in Kolkata, while Semi-final 2 will take place in Mumbai.

The governing body further clarified that if India qualify for the semi-finals, they will play in Mumbai. However, if India are drawn against Pakistan in the semi-finals, the high-voltage encounter will be shifted to Colombo.

The revised schedule comes amid heightened interest surrounding the Super Eight clash between Pakistan and England, which is being seen as crucial to Pakistan’s hopes of progressing to the knockout stage.
