Bollywood comedian Rajpal Yadav has put forward a unique demand following his release from Tihar Jail, suggesting the establishment of designated smoking areas inside prisons.
The actor, who had surrendered to jail authorities in compliance with court orders and was released days later, also expressed gratitude for the support he received from the public and the film fraternity during the period.
Speaking to the media in his hometown Shahjahanpur, the 54-year-old actor said he received immense love and encouragement during the difficult time and thanked everyone for their support.
On the occasion, he proposed that prisons should have separate and designated areas for smoking, similar to arrangements available at railway stations and airports.
Rajpal Yadav said jails should not only serve as places of punishment but also function as genuine reform centres, where inmates are provided with structured environments and better facilities to encourage positive change.
It is worth mentioning that the Delhi High Court had directed the actor to surrender by 4 February after withdrawing earlier relief granted to him in multiple cheque dishonour cases. Following the court’s order, he surrendered at Tihar Jail and was later released after completion of legal formalities.
