In a stunning performance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Canadian opener Yuvraj Samra scored a century, breaking a 12-year-old record previously held by Pakistan’s Ahmed Shehzad.

On Tuesday, Canada faced New Zealand in a Group D match. Batting first, Canada posted 173 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs, powered by Samra’s brilliant 110 off 65 balls. At 19 years and 141 days, he became the youngest player to score a century in the Men’s T20 World Cup, surpassing Shehzad, who scored his 2014 century against Bangladesh at 22 years and 127 days.

Samra also became the first player from an Associate Nation to score a century in the tournament.

New Zealand chased down the target comfortably, reaching 174 in 16 overs with 2 wickets lost, and qualified for the Super 8 stage from Group D.
