Opposition sit-ins continue in Islamabad

2 min read

Protest sit-ins by the opposition alliance continued in the federal capital on Saturday, with leaders staging demonstrations at Parliament House and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House since after Friday prayers.

Opposition Leader in the Senate Raja Nasir Abbas, Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Gohar Ali Khan are leading the sit-in at Parliament House, while Sohail Afridi and other leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf are holding a protest at KP House.

Heavy police contingents have been deployed at both locations to maintain law and order.
Speaking to the media, Raja Nasir Abbas said the sit-in would continue, adding that food and water supplies had been suspended but the protesters would not back down.

In response to the ongoing demonstrations, federal police have once again sealed the Red Zone. Authorities have kept only Margalla Road open for entry into the high-security area.

Vehicles are being allowed onto Shahrah-e-Dastoor after security checks at Margalla Road.

Parliament House and D-Chowk have been closed to all kinds of traffic, while police prisoner vans and armored vehicles have been stationed outside Parliament House and KP House to prevent any untoward situation.
