Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has expressed deep concern over terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil, telling the United Nations Security Council that Pakistan will not compromise on its sovereignty or the protection of its citizens.
Addressing a meeting of the Security Council, the Pakistani envoy said that more than 80 innocent Pakistanis had lost their lives in recent terrorist attacks. He stated that there is evidence indicating that Afghan territory was used to plan these incidents.
He said such elements are continuously targeting Pakistan, posing a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
Asim Iftikhar Ahmad urged the interim Afghan authorities to ensure that their territory is not used for terrorist activities against Pakistan or any other country.
He also called upon the international community to take the matter seriously and adopt effective measures to dismantle terrorist networks operating in the region.
In his address, the Pakistani envoy expressed concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis and economic challenges in Afghanistan, particularly restrictions imposed on women’s rights.
He stressed that provision of basic rights and facilities to the Afghan people is essential to lay the foundation for sustainable peace in the region.
During the meeting, Pakistan conveyed a clear message that cross-border terrorism is a threat not only to bilateral relations but also to global peace, and that practical steps are imperative to address the issue.
