Owners of PSL’s new franchise, Sialkot Stallions, have expressed confidence that the combination of Steve Smith and Wasim Akram will take the team to new heights.
Speaking on the morning show of Local TV, Sialkot Stallions chairperson Sabiha Sultan and co-owner Muhammad Shahid said former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has been appointed as team president to contribute his experience and vision to domestic cricket.
“Wasim Akram’s global fan base and unique approach to the game will help steer league cricket in the right direction. We are confident that the Smith-Akram duo will elevate the team,” they said.
The owners added that having global stars like Akram and Smith will give young Pakistani players a chance to learn and grow. “Like the name suggests, Sialkot Stallions represent power, focus, hard work, and commitment. We have chosen players with these qualities to give our rivals a tough time,” they said.
They also praised the PCB for smooth arrangements during the player draft and promised more surprises in the coming days. “Just as Sialkot is recognized worldwide for sports, especially football, our philosophy is to make this cricket team a symbol of the city. This team belongs to Sialkot and its cricket enthusiasts, not just to us,” they added.
It was also noted that former owner Hamza Majeed has sold 75 percent of the franchise shares to Sabiha Sultan and Muhammad Shahid, retaining only 25 percent for himself.
