Nasir Adeeb slams Shan Shahid over viral comment during film promotion

3 min read

Renowned Pakistani writer Nasir Adeeb has publicly criticized legendary actor Shan Shahid over remarks made during the promotion of his upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr Punjabi film Bhala.

During a promotional event, Shan Shahid was asked why Nasir Adeeb, the film’s writer, was not present. The actor reportedly replied sarcastically that Adeeb “might be sitting somewhere criticizing others.” The clip of Shan Shahid’s comment went viral on social media.

In response, Nasir Adeeb released a video directly addressing Shan Shahid, defending his reputation and questioning the actor’s remarks. “Shan Sahab, do I criticize people? My podcast has been running for the past two years. Tell me, what have I ever said wrong? Whom have I falsely accused? Whose character have I tarnished?” Adeeb asked.

He challenged the actor’s claim regarding his absence, stating, “I did a program about you—watch it! You should know that without a writer, what kind of hero are you? If you can’t do anything without a writer, how can you say I am sitting somewhere criticizing?”

Adeeb also accused Shan Shahid of unprofessional conduct on film sets, saying that he often delayed shoots for hours, made unauthorized changes to scripts, and disregarded the director’s authority. “I told the director that if I am guaranteed the actor won’t interfere with the script, I approve his casting. I even said he is bigger than Shahrukh Khan,” he added.

He further criticized Shan Shahid for what he described as a negative influence on Pakistan’s film industry. “The decline of Pakistani cinema—have you ever thought about it? You brought this decline yourself. Films stopped coming to you because of your repeated delays on sets,” Nasir Adeeb remarked, asserting that his observations were based on personal experience.

The video has sparked discussions across social media, reigniting debates over professionalism and accountability in the Pakistani film industry.
