Australia defeated Pakistan 3-2 in a thrilling opening match of the second phase of the Pro Hockey League in Hobart.
The host team secured victory with a controversial penalty stroke for their third goal, adding drama to an intense encounter.
Australia took an early lead in the second minute of the first quarter through Tim Brand, who also scored their second goal in the 29th minute. At halftime, Australia led 2-0.
Pakistan responded in the third quarter, with Ahmed Nadeem scoring in the 35th minute. Their second goal came from Saifan Khan in the 39th minute on a penalty corner.
In the final moments, Australia was awarded a penalty stroke, converted by Gore Black, sealing the match in their favour. Australia earned seven penalty corners compared to Pakistan’s three.
Pakistan’s goalkeeper Ali Raza displayed exceptional skill, denying several certain goals and keeping the match closely contested.
The national team will face Germany in their next fixture tomorrow.
