Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi has said that pressure is being applied on the police regarding May 9 incidents, but he is proud that the force is not yielding to any external influence.
Speaking to the media in Peshawar, Sohail Afridi urged those pressuring the police to stop and not involve them in politics. He said the provincial government has kept KP police free from any political interference and no political intervention is being made in the force.
The chief minister emphasized that the government stands firmly against terrorism, adding that decisions made behind closed doors in the past caused significant losses and that wrong policies have hindered peace in the province.
He praised the sacrifices of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police over the past 22 years, saying they continue to serve with dedication despite being disrespected, and that the government is acting sincerely to support them.
Sohail Afridi said he is proud of the police and has never denied their legitimate requests. He highlighted that the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Special Branch serve as the province’s “eyes and ears” and are being equipped with modern facilities.
The chief minister also announced that the Safe City project will be launched across the entire province, including the merged districts.
