Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentarians submitted a formal memorandum to the Registrar Supreme Court following a protest outside the apex court, demanding the provision of the party founder’s medical report, permission for meetings with family members and lawyers, and implementation of court orders.

PTI parliamentarians staged a protest outside the Supreme Court in Islamabad, where foolproof security arrangements had been put in place.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, Salman Akram Raja, Latif Khosa, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and other party leaders reached the Supreme Court premises, where slogans were also raised.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said the Chief Justice had stated that the medical report would be obtained from PIMS hospital, but it had not yet been provided. He said PTI parliamentarians would now submit a memorandum to the Supreme Court regarding the matter.

Spokesperson of Tehreek Tahaffuz Aain Pakistan, Afonzada Hussain Yousafzai, said that everyone had already been informed about the protest plan for February 8 and any confusion had arisen due to lack of attention. He clarified that Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas had briefed all leaders on the plan and that a peaceful protest would be held on February 8.

Later, Barrister Gohar, Salman Akram Raja and Latif Khosa met the Registrar Supreme Court and submitted the signed memorandum.

Talking to reporters, Barrister Gohar said the PTI founder had so far not been allowed to meet family members, lawyers or anyone else, adding that at least permission should be granted for a doctor’s visit to allay concerns.

Latif Khosa said it was the constitutional duty of the Chief Justice to protect the Constitution and the law. He said PTI had only demanded the medical report, adding that the entire nation was curious about the issue. He also announced that the party would present its stance to the public on February 8. After submission of the memorandum, the protest was called off and the parliamentarians dispersed.
