Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan on Tuesday met Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Tarik Ali Khan to discuss matters of mutual interest and ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the Canadian High Commissioner conveyed his government’s strong interest in expanding bilateral trade and said Canadian companies are keen to invest in Pakistan’s growing market, particularly in the livestock, agriculture and other priority sectors.

Aleem Khan said Pakistan is actively engaging the private sector to enhance production across multiple industries and outlined progress on major infrastructure projects. He highlighted the Karachi–Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway, noting that new motorway links connected to Karachi Port present attractive investment opportunities.

The minister said the Sialkot–Islamabad Motorway will reduce travel distance by about 100 kilometres, while the Kharian–Rawalpindi Motorway, planned as a six-lane facility, is also being opened for investment.

Briefing the High Commissioner on ongoing digitalisation reforms, Aleem Khan said around 80 percent of vehicles are now equipped with M-Tags, adding that these measures have contributed to significant revenue growth at the National Highway Authority (NHA).

Concluding the meeting, the minister said it was a matter of pride for Pakistan to have a High Commissioner of Pakistani origin representing Canada. The meeting ended on a cordial note, with a warm exchange in Urdu reflecting the strong cultural ties between the two countries.
