Pakistan’s inflation rises to 5.8 pct in January

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s consumer price index (CPI) inflation rose to 5.8 percent year on year in January 2026, up from 5.6 percent in December 2025, said official statistics.

On a month-on-month basis, CPI inflation increased by 0.4 percent in January 2026, compared with a decline of 0.4 percent in the previous month, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said.

Urban CPI inflation remained stable at 5.8 percent year on year in January 2026, unchanged from December 2025, while rural CPI inflation rose to 5.8 percent, up from 5.4 percent in the previous month.

On a month-on-month basis, urban prices increased by 0.2 percent, and rural prices by 0.6 percent.

Meanwhile, the sensitive price index inflation rose by 3.3 percent year on year in January 2026, compared with 2.5 percent in December 2025, the PBS said.
