World Bank President Ajay Pal Singh Banga has arrived in Pakistan for a four-day official visit, which will continue until February 4, 2026. During his stay, Banga will meet with key Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and other senior officials.
According to reports, President Banga visited his ancestral home in Khushab and also paid a ceremonial visit to Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib, where he performed religious rituals. He was presented with a siropa by the Sikh community in recognition of his visit. The event was marked by tight security arrangements, and provincial ministers Ramesh Singh Arora, DP, and DC personally welcomed him.
During his visit, Banga will hold meetings with senior government officials, including the Deputy Prime Minister, Finance Minister, Energy Minister, and other economic affairs authorities. Discussions are expected to focus on Pakistan’s ongoing economic reforms, development priorities, and the water dispute with India.
Sources indicate that Banga will also review progress on the 10-year Country Partnership Framework between Pakistan and the World Bank, under which the World Bank has committed to provide $20 billion in funding to Pakistan by 2035 to support economic development and infrastructure projects.
The visit underscores the World Bank’s ongoing engagement with Pakistan and highlights efforts to strengthen economic cooperation, development planning, and institutional reforms.
