China warns against revival of Japanese militarism

2 min read

China on Thursday issued a strong warning against what it described as the resurgence of Japanese militarism, saying Beijing would work with peace-loving countries to contain moves that threaten regional and global stability.

Chinese Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Jiang Bin said Japan’s new administration has intensified military expansion and accelerated efforts to loosen long-standing restrictions on its armed forces since taking office.

He said Japan has acquired offensive weapons under the banner of enhancing its so-called “counterstrike capability” and has openly advocated nuclear armament, actions he said violate Japan’s obligations as a defeated country under legally binding international documents, including the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation.

According to Jiang, these developments pose a serious threat to peace and stability in Asia and beyond, and have triggered heightened vigilance among neighboring countries and the wider international community.

“China will work with all peace-loving nations to resolutely contain the resurgence of the spectre of militarism,” Jiang said, adding that Beijing remains committed to safeguarding the post-war international order, as well as international fairness and justice.
