ICC suspends USA’s Aaron Jones ahead of T20 World Cup

The United States cricket team has lost one of its experienced batsmen just ahead of the T20 World Cup.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended Aaron Jones with immediate effect, citing five breaches of its anti-corruption code. Jones has been given 14 days to respond to the charges.

The 31-year-old was among 18 players attending the USA training camp in Sri Lanka in preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup. While the squad for the tournament has not yet been announced, it was expected that 15 players from the camp would be selected.
Following the suspension, Jones is now ineligible for selection.

According to the ICC, most of the charges relate to the 2023-24 ‘BEM 10’ tournament played in Barbados under the jurisdiction of Cricket West Indies, while two charges concern international matches. The allegations include match-fixing, failure to report suspicious approaches, refusal to cooperate with investigations, and concealing evidence.

The ICC added that this case is part of a wider investigation that could result in charges against additional players.

Aaron Jones, who made his debut in 2019, has represented the USA in 52 One Day Internationals and 48 T20 Internationals. In the 2024 T20 World Cup, he played a brilliant innings of 94 against Canada and was instrumental in the USA’s historic win over Pakistan.
