The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has initiated an inquiry into alleged financial irregularities worth billions of rupees in the Sindh Solar Energy Project.

In this regard, NAB Karachi has sent a formal letter to the principal secretary to the chief minister of Sindh, informing the provincial government about the inquiry against Sindh government officials and relevant stakeholders.

According to the letter, the inquiry is being conducted under Section 18 of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999, over allegations of illegal procurement and misappropriation of public funds in the solar energy project.

The letter states that the alleged irregularities have caused financial losses to the national exchequer. It further notes that under its legal mandate, NAB is the sole institution authorised to inquire into offences falling within its jurisdiction.

NAB maintained that under the ordinance, the responsibility to investigate and examine any alleged offence rests with the bureau, and no other agency or authority can be involved unless NAB deems it necessary.

In connection with the alleged corruption in the solar energy project, NAB has sought relevant documents from the concerned departments to proceed with the inquiry.
