Security forces successfully foiled a terrorist attack on a police mobile van in Domel, Bannu, with two militants killed in the exchange of fire, officials said on Monday.
According to police, the incident took place near Company Road while the Domel police mobile van was on routine patrol. Militants ambushed the vehicle, opening heavy fire. The ensuing exchange lasted about twenty minutes before the attackers were neutralised.
Following the attack, personnel from the Provincial Armed Police Company (PAPC), Quick Response Force (QRF), and Rapid Response Force reached the scene. During a search operation, the bodies of two militants were recovered and shifted to KGN Hospital for legal formalities. Weapons were also seized from the deceased attackers.
Police said a search-and-clear operation is ongoing in the area to eliminate any remaining threat.
Separately, authorities also foiled a major sabotage attempt in the jurisdiction of Basiah Khel police station, Bannu, by recovering a five-kilogram improvised explosive device (IED) fitted in a cylinder. The bomb disposal squad successfully defused the device.
Officials said these operations reflect ongoing counter-terrorism efforts to prevent large-scale attacks and ensure the safety of civilians in Bannu and surrounding areas.
