Beijing continues to lead China in the number of registered artificial intelligence (AI) models, Mayor Yin Yong announced Sunday while presenting the government work report at the annual session of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress.

“The number of registered and launched large AI models in Beijing has consistently ranked highest nationwide,” Yin said, highlighting the city’s progress in building a comprehensive AI ecosystem, including pilot application bases in healthcare, manufacturing, and scientific research.

The report noted that the added value of Beijing’s digital economy grew by 8.7 percent in 2025.

According to the Beijing Artificial Intelligence Industry White Paper (2025), released by the municipal science commission on November 29, the city hosts more than 2,500 AI firms and has registered 183 large AI models, the highest among Chinese cities.

Preliminary estimates from the white paper suggest that Beijing’s total AI industry exceeded 450 billion yuan (about 64.6 billion U.S. dollars) in 2025. The core AI sector grew 25.3 percent in the first half of the year, reaching 215.2 billion yuan.

Commercial AI models developed by Beijing-based firms, including Baidu’s Ernie, ByteDance’s Doubao, Zhipu AI’s GLM, and Moonshot AI’s Kimi, have achieved performance levels comparable to top international standards.
