Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, met Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to Jordan, Major General (R) Khurram Sarfraz Khan, at the National Heritage and Culture Division on Tuesday to discuss ways to enhance bilateral diplomatic and cultural relations between Pakistan and Jordan.

Secretary of the National Heritage and Culture Division, Asad Rehman Gillani, was also present during the meeting.

The discussion focused on strengthening Pakistan–Jordan relations through cultural diplomacy. Minister Khichi noted that following the “Marka-e-Haq,” Pakistan has gained respect and recognition globally, and that several countries are keen to further develop ties with Pakistan.

Secretary Gillani highlighted that the number of Pakistanis traveling to Jordan remains relatively low and stressed the need to facilitate visa procedures. Ambassador-designate Khurram Sarfraz Khan acknowledged multiple reasons for limited Pakistani presence but emphasized that Jordan is home to shrines of several Prophets and Companions (RA), attracting interest from Pakistani visitors.

Both sides emphasized cultural cooperation as a key means of promoting bilateral relations. The ambassador-designate noted that Pakistan–Jordan relations date back to Pakistan’s independence and can be further strengthened through cultural collaboration.

Minister Khichi proposed hosting a Jordan Cultural Week in Pakistan to promote mutual understanding and people-to-people contacts. The ambassador-designate appreciated Pakistan’s craftsmanship, highlighting the world-renowned intricate woodwork of Chiniot.

Secretary Gillani briefed him on Pakistan’s regional handicrafts, cultural heritage, and local artisans, suggesting that these could be sent to Jordan for exhibitions.

The secretary stressed that while government-level relations are strong, there is a need to strengthen public-level ties. The ambassador-designate praised the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of Pakistani youth.

The meeting concluded with a proposal to organize a Pakistan–Jordan Furniture Expo in Jordan, showcasing Pakistani wood carving and handicrafts to promote them at the international level.
