PDMA issues severe cold weather alert until January 16

The Pakistan Meteorological and Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a severe cold weather alert until January 16, warning of heavy snowfall, dense fog, and smog in several regions.

According to the alert, areas including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, and the Potohar region are expected to experience extreme cold accompanied by possible snowfall. The alert also forecasts worsening fog and smog conditions.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia advised educational institutions to instruct students to wear appropriate warm clothing and take measures in classrooms to protect against the cold. He further directed all hospitals and health centers to ensure the availability of medicines and staff to respond to cold-related emergencies.

The PDMA has circulated the alert to departments including tourism, education, health, agriculture, local government, and forestry to ensure coordinated preparedness across sectors.
