Following difficulties faced by citizens in fingerprint verification, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new face-recognition biometric verification service. The facility aims to assist elderly individuals and those with medical issues who face challenges in fingerprint-based verification.
According to a NADRA spokesperson, on the directives of the Prime Minister and Interior Minister, several measures were taken, including amendments to the National Identity Card laws to broaden the definition of biometric verification. A face-recognition verification feature has also been integrated into the Pak-i-Mobile app.
Starting January 20, all NADRA centers will issue biometric verification certificates based on facial recognition. Citizens can obtain the certificates for a nominal fee. If fingerprint verification is not possible, citizens can visit the nearest NADRA registration center, where facial recognition will be used to complete the verification and issue the certificate.
The certificate will include the citizen’s photograph, CNIC number, name, parentage, unique tracking ID, and QR code, and will remain valid for seven days.
The spokesperson said NADRA is fully prepared to implement the system and has requested relevant government and private institutions to take necessary measures. Complaints related to the availability of this service after January 20 can be lodged with the concerned agencies or departments.Once the Digital ID is launched, this verification service will also be accessible through the Pak-i-Mobile app.
