Pakistan on Monday expressed serious concern over incidents of vandalism during Christmas and continued violence against Muslims in India, calling the persecution of minorities a matter of deep alarm.
Responding to media queries, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tahir Andrabi, said that recent condemnable incidents, including vandalism during Christmas and state-sponsored campaigns targeting Muslims, have further aggravated fear and alienation among minority communities.
He said these campaigns include the demolition of Muslim homes and repeated incidents of lynching, notably the case of Muhammad Akhlaq, in which, he alleged, the state worked to shield the perpetrators from accountability. He added that the list of such victims is sadly long.
The spokesperson said the international community should take note of these developments and take appropriate steps to help protect the fundamental rights of vulnerable communities in India.
