In a major counterterrorism operation, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Lakki and Lakki Marwat police have killed a highly wanted terrorist commander during a joint action in the district.
According to a spokesperson for Lakki Marwat police, the operation was carried out in the outskirts of Wanda Amir Khan area of Lakki district. Volunteers from local peace committees also participated alongside police personnel.
The operation was conducted under special directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, who has ordered targeted actions against terrorists across the province.
As part of these efforts, CTD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams and local police, under the supervision of DIG Bannu Region Sajjad Khan and District Police Officer Lakki Marwat Nazir Khan (PSP), launched an operation against militants affiliated with Fitna Al-Khawarij.
During the operation, the terrorist commander, identified as Barkatullah alias Barkati alias Abuzar, opened fire along with his accomplices on the police party. Police returned fire, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. The terrorist commander was killed on the spot.
Police said the body of the slain militant and weapons in his possession were recovered during a subsequent search operation. His accomplices managed to escape by taking advantage of the difficult terrain, and a manhunt is currently underway.
According to police, the killed militant was a leader and facilitator of active terrorist groups operating under different aliases. He was wanted in more than 10 serious cases, including terrorism, attacks on police and security forces, murder, attempted murder, and extortion.
Police officials said he was also involved in the targeted killings and martyrdom of Constables Samiullah and Asadullah of Bego Khel, Constable Hafiz Zainatullah, and former Levies personnel Hayatullah.
Regional Police Officer Bannu Sajjad Khan and Additional Inspector General of CTD praised the CTD Lakki team, Lakki Marwat police, and peace committee volunteers for the successful operation. They stated that police and the public stand united for the restoration of peace and that efforts will continue to make Lakki Marwat a peaceful district.
