A fresh spell of rain and snowfall across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Azad Kashmir has intensified cold weather, affecting daily life and travel in several areas.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain was reported in Peshawar, Hangu and Charsadda, leading to a noticeable drop in temperature. Upper regions including Chitral, Kalam, Mahodand and Malam Jabba received snowfall, covering roads, rooftops and trees in a thick white layer. In Azad Kashmir, rain lashed Neelum Valley, while intermittent snowfall continued in higher elevations, further lowering temperatures.
Balochistan also experienced rainfall after a long dry spell. The rain, accompanied by strong winds, caused a sharp increase in cold across the province. In Chaman, Qila Abdullah and Toba Achakzai, high winds and rain damaged infrastructure, uprooting trees and knocking down electricity poles and boundary walls in some areas, according to local administration officials.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department said the system is likely to persist over the next few days, bringing more rain in plain areas and snowfall in mountainous regions. The department advised tourists and residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel, especially in hilly areas where slippery roads and reduced visibility could pose risks.
Sources said district administrations and rescue services have been put on alert to respond to any emergencies arising from the changing weather conditions.
