The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a LESCO official red-handed while allegedly receiving a bribe for providing a new electricity connection, officials said.
According to the FIA, the arrest was made by the Anti-Corruption Circle Lahore during a targeted operation. The suspect, identified as Muhammad Irfan, was serving as a line superintendent with the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO).
Officials said Irfan was posted at the LESCO sub-division office Jia Musa and had demanded illegal gratification from a complainant in exchange for installing a new power connection.
The accused was caught while receiving Rs15,000 as bribe money from the complainant, the FIA said. An FIA spokesperson said a case has been registered against the suspect and further investigation is under way to determine whether other officials were involved in similar practices. The agency reiterated its commitment to taking action against corruption in public service departments, according to officials.
