A British court has praised the bravery of a Pakistani youth, Abdullah Tanoli, for saving the life of an 11-year-old girl during a knife attack in central London, and has ordered a cash reward to be given to him from public funds, British media reported.
The incident occurred in August last year at Leicester Square, where Abdullah Tanoli was on duty as a security guard at a shop. According to reports, he intervened after hearing the screams of a young girl who was being threatened by a knife-wielding attacker.
During court proceedings, the judge commended Tanoli’s courage and swift response, describing his actions as critical in preventing serious harm. The court ordered that Tanoli be awarded £1,000 from public funds in recognition of his bravery.
The judge also ordered that the attacker, identified as Poon Pintaro, be transferred to a high-security mental health hospital for treatment.
According to the report, Tanoli acted immediately upon hearing the girl’s cries and, with the assistance of other security guards, managed to restrain the attacker until police arrived at the scene.
Following the incident, Abdullah Tanoli has been widely praised in the United Kingdom as a hero. He has also received several honours and public appreciation for his actions, British media said.
