An unusual incident involving fake currency notes was reported during a wedding ceremony in Kotri, causing financial loss to the event’s organizers, police and local sources said.
The incident took place at a wedding held near the WAPDA Colony, where individuals stationed at the entrance were receiving cash gifts from guests. According to sources, counterfeit currency notes were handed over as part of the wedding gifts without raising immediate suspicion.
The matter came to light after the ceremony ended and the collected cash was counted. During verification, 11 counterfeit notes of Rs5,000 denomination were detected, amounting to Rs55,000. Sources said the suspects used a method in which a Rs5,000 fake note was given, and Rs4,000 was taken back as change, resulting in losses for the organizers.
Initial information suggests that a total of 12 counterfeit Rs5,000 notes were received during the event, and approximately Rs44,000 was fraudulently obtained through this practice.
Following the incident, the wedding organizers began reviewing CCTV camera footage installed at the venue to identify those involved. They are also considering legal action after completing the initial identification process, according to local sources.
Police said that further investigation would be initiated if a formal complaint is lodged by the affected parties.
