Moderate earthquake jolts Islamabad and surrounding areas

Islamabad and several parts of northern Pakistan were shaken by an earthquake on Saturday night, triggering brief panic among residents, though no casualties or damage were immediately reported.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake struck at 9:37 pm with a magnitude of 4.2 on the Richter scale. The epicentre was located about 50 kilometres southwest of Tarbela, at a depth of 15 kilometres.

Tremors were felt in the federal capital Islamabad as well as in Attock, Hasan Abdal, Kamra, Kharian, Hazro and nearby areas. Witnesses said people rushed out of their homes in fear, reciting prayers as the ground shook.

Local authorities said the situation remained normal following the quake and no reports of loss of life or property damage had been received by late evening.
