Islamabad IG grants direct powers to SHOs for financial fraud cases

1 min read

In response to a rising number of financial fraud and transaction-related cases, the Islamabad Inspector General (IG) has announced a major procedural change.

Under the new decision, Station House Officers (SHOs) can directly register cases involving financial transactions up to Rs 2.5 million without requiring citizens to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) or appear before multiple officers.

Previously, complainants had to wait months for inquiries or SOP approvals in cases such as check dishonor or stamp-related disputes, causing significant difficulties for victims.

For financial fraud or transaction cases exceeding Rs 2.5 million, the authority to register complaints will rest with the relevant Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

Authorities said the move aims to streamline the registration process, provide quicker relief to victims, and reduce bureaucratic delays in financial dispute cases.
