Motorways closed at multiple points due to heavy fog

Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Severe fog in parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has disrupted traffic, prompting authorities to close several motorway sections.

According to officials, low visibility forced the closure of the following motorways: M-1 from Peshawar to Sawabi, M-4 from Sher Shah to Shum Kot, M-5 from Sher Shah to Rohri, and M-11 from Lahore to Sambahial. Motorway police have advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.

The fog has also slowed traffic on national highways, creating additional hazards for motorists. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic guidelines strictly.

Meanwhile, air pollution remains high in several major cities. Gujranwala recorded the worst air quality with a particulate matter (PM2.5) level of 429, followed by Faisalabad at 347, Peshawar at 272, Rawalpindi at 207, and Lahore at 180, according to global environmental monitoring websites.

Officials warned that poor visibility combined with heavy pollution could pose serious health and safety risks and called on residents to limit outdoor exposure and avoid non-essential travel.
