The Sindh cabinet has approved the procurement of a wireless communication system for prisons across the province in a move aimed at strengthening security and improving administrative efficiency, officials said.
The approval was granted on the recommendation of the Inspector General of Prisons, keeping national interest and security considerations in view. During the meeting, the cabinet noted that making procurement details public could potentially compromise jail security.
The cabinet was informed that Rs200 million for the project had already been released for the financial year 2025–26 with the approval of the Chief Minister of Sindh.
It was further decided that the National Radio Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) would be hired for the purchase and installation of the wireless communication system.
Chief Minister Sindh said the provincial government was committed to ensuring security and discipline in prisons at all costs. He added that the new wireless communication system would significantly enhance coordination, administrative performance and overall security within jails.
