A severe cold wave has tightened its grip on Balochistan, with temperatures plunging to freezing levels in several districts. According to the Meteorological Department, Quetta recorded 0°C, while Kalat dropped to –2°C early Sunday morning, marking one of the season’s coldest spells so far.
In its 24-hour weather forecast, the Met Office said most districts of Balochistan will continue to experience dry and very cold conditions, particularly in the northern parts where temperatures are expected to fall further during the night and early morning.
Cloudy weather has been predicted for Quetta and northwestern districts, with chances of light rain and light snowfall on surrounding mountains in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, and nearby areas.
Officials warned that the expected weather pattern could intensify the cold in the province’s mountainous regions, urging residents and travellers to exercise caution.
Morning temperatures across the province showed a sharp contrast between highland and coastal regions. According to the Met Office, Ziarat recorded –2°C, Zhob 3°C, Sibi 9°C, Turbat 14°C, Nokkundi 9°C, and Chaman 4°C. In the coastal belt, Gwadar recorded a minimum temperature of 18°C, while Jiwani stood at 12°C.
Authorities have advised citizens to take precautions against the biting cold, wear warm clothing, and ensure extra care for children and the elderly.
