Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has been fined and given a demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the recent tri-series final against Sri Lanka. According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), Zaman was fined 10% of his match fee and received one demerit point—his first offense in the past 24 months.
The incident occurred in the 19th over of Pakistan’s innings when Zaman argued at length with the umpires over a dismissal decision. The behavior was deemed a violation of Article 2.8 of the ICC Code, which covers dissent or showing displeasure at an umpire’s decision.
The sanction was recommended by ICC International Panel of Match Referees member Riveon King, following charges filed by umpires Ahsan Raza, Asif Yaqub, Rashid Riaz, and Faisal Afridi. Zaman admitted the offense and accepted the penalty, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
ICC Level 1 offenses can carry punishments ranging from warnings to fines of up to 50% of match fees, along with one or two demerit points.
