Fazila Qazi urges modern brides to focus on marriage, not media hype

Senior Pakistani actress Fazila Qazi has urged modern-day brides to shift their focus from excessive trend-following to the true purpose of marriage, cautioning that wedding hype created by the media is pushing young women toward unrealistic expectations.

Speaking on a private TV programme, Qazi said her views on wedding preparations differ sharply from prevailing trends. “In my opinion, weddings don’t require such extensive preparations. And if someone still wants to plan heavily, they should manage everything well in advance,” she noted.

Commenting on the culture of extravagant bridal makeovers and “fairytale” expectations, the actress said the media has created such an overwhelming hype that “every girl now imagines herself as the heroine of a drama.”

She added that dramas and films exist in the realm of fantasy, whereas real life cannot offer that level of perfection.

“When a girl starts seeing herself as a heroine, she wants her dress, her matching accessories and even her wedding entrance to look cinematic. Many brides today treat the wedding as ‘my day’ and aim to enjoy it as a grand performance,” Qazi said.

However, she stressed that while the wedding day may be special, “life after that day is what truly matters.” Even if a bride’s wishes remain unfulfilled during the ceremony, she said, a meaningful and stable future can still realise those dreams over time.
