The Punjab government has approved the launch of the “Chief Minister Punjab Honorarium Card for Mosque Imams”, setting February 2026 as the deadline for the card’s full rollout. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

According to officials, payments under the new system will begin from January 1, initially through pay orders, while from February 1, all disbursements will be made exclusively via the newly introduced Honorarium Card.

The chief minister directed authorities to keep the registration process for prayer leaders ongoing across the province. So far, 62,994 registration forms have been received from mosque imams, while verification continues. The government has further decided that any imam found involved in activities against national interests or engaged in moral or financial crimes will have their honorarium immediately suspended.

The meeting also approved the establishment of Mosque Management Committees and Tehsil Management Committees across Punjab to streamline oversight and coordination.

Maryam Nawaz instructed assistant commissioners to hold monthly meetings with imams in their respective areas. She also ordered continuous combing operations in sensitive zones to maintain security.

The session further decided to introduce legislation ensuring strict action against individuals damaging Safe City cameras or government property. The chief minister issued directives for enhanced digital monitoring of individuals on the Fourth Schedule, and ordered that operations against illegally residing Afghan nationals continue without interruption.
