Pakistan Railways approves major upgrade of Nokundi–Sibi track to support Reko Diq project

In a move tied to the strategic importance of the Reko Diq copper-gold project, Pakistan Railways has decided to upgrade the 600-kilometre rail line running from Nokundi to Sibi, officials confirmed on Sunday.

Divisional Superintendent Railways Imran Hayat Khan said the department would procure new railway tracks from abroad to ensure durability and compliance with international standards.

He said the upgrade work is scheduled to begin in February next year, with an estimated cost of $360 million. The project is expected to be completed within three years.

Officials say the enhanced rail link will strengthen logistics and improve freight movement connected to the Reko Diq project, one of the country’s largest mineral developments.
