Sindh extends rangers’ deployment in Karachi for another year

2 min read

The Sindh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, has approved the extension of Pakistan Rangers’ deployment in Karachi for an additional year, officials confirmed. The decision was taken during a high-level cabinet meeting to ensure continued support for law enforcement and security operations in the city.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s spokesperson, the Rangers will operate under the Anti-Terrorism Act while providing assistance to the local police. Their mandate will include counter-terrorism operations, maintaining public order, and assisting police in controlling organized crime and violent incidents.

The spokesperson added that the new term of deployment will be effective from December 9, 2025, and will continue for a period of one year. The move is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security measures in Karachi, which has historically faced challenges related to militancy, organized crime, and law and order management.

The Sindh government highlighted that Rangers’ continued presence is intended to complement police operations, particularly in high-risk areas, and to ensure the safety of residents and critical infrastructure. Officials emphasized that the deployment will focus on intelligence-driven operations and rapid response to incidents of violence or terrorism.

Security analysts note that Karachi’s complex security environment necessitates sustained coordination between the Rangers and local police to prevent crime and terrorism, while civil authorities manage administrative oversight.
