Pakistan has initiated a large-scale humanitarian relief mission to support Sri Lanka after devastating floods, following direct instructions from the Prime Minister. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), working in close coordination with the Pakistan Armed Forces, has completed preparations for the immediate dispatch of aid and a specialized Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team.
According to NDMA officials, the first relief consignment—totaling 100 tons of emergency supplies—will leave for Colombo on November 30 aboard a Pakistan Air Force C-130 from Nur Khan Airbase. A 45-member Pakistan Army USAR team will accompany the consignment.
NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, HI(M) will supervise the mission’s departure. A formal send-off ceremony is planned at Nur Khan Base, where senior representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NDMA, and diplomats are expected to attend.
The relief package includes rescue boats, dewatering pumps, life jackets, family tents, blankets, quilts, bubble mats, mosquito nets, infant formula, dry food rations, medicines, and other essential items. A mobile field hospital is also being deployed to provide medical assistance on the ground.
Officials said Pakistan stands firmly with Sri Lanka during this humanitarian emergency and will continue to extend support as needed in the coming days.
