Saudi Arabia has been elected to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council for the 2026-2027 term, securing 142 votes during elections held in London, according to Saudi media reports.
The strong vote count places the Kingdom among key members responsible for shaping global maritime policies, safety standards, and navigational regulations.
Saudi Minister of Transport Saleh Al-Jasser welcomed the outcome, saying the victory reflects international confidence in the Kingdom’s maritime capabilities and leadership. He added that the achievement is a direct result of the progress made under Saudi Vision 2030, which prioritizes the development of maritime transport and logistics.
Al-Jasser noted that the IMO Council seat underscores the Kingdom’s growing influence in global trade routes and its commitment to strengthening international maritime cooperation.
