Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh’s upcoming film Dhriandar faces a legal challenge just days before its scheduled release on December 5.
The family of the late Major Mohit Sharma has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking to halt the film’s release, claiming it appears to be inspired by Major Sharma’s life and secret missions without the family’s consent. The petition argues that the film could violate posthumous personal rights, breach family privacy, and potentially raise national security concerns.
Director Aditya Dhad responded, clarifying that the movie is not based on Major Sharma and emphasized that any future biopics would seek permission from both the family and the Indian Army.
Meanwhile, the widow of slain Sindh police officer Chaudhry Aslam, Noreen Aslam, has also expressed strong objections to the film. She criticized the filmmakers for allegedly portraying Chaudhry Aslam’s character unfavorably while glorifying the outlaw Rahman Daku and presenting a vague depiction of the political party PPP. Noreen Aslam warned she would pursue legal action if the film propagates content against her late husband.
Dhriandar features Ranveer Singh, Akshay Khanna, and Sanjay Dutt in leading roles. The legal challenges have cast uncertainty over the film’s December 5 release.
