Pakistan has been re-elected to the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) for the 2026–2028 term, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday.
The election took place during the 30th session of the OPCW Conference held from November 24 to 28 in The Hague.
The Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), with 193 member states, is regarded as the world’s most successful arms control treaty, having led to the elimination of an entire category of chemical weapons. The OPCW Executive Council serves as the organization’s principal policymaking body, overseeing effective implementation and compliance with the convention.
Pakistan has been an active OPCW member since ratifying the CWC in 1997, consistently contributing to the convention’s objectives. The country’s re-election to the 41-member council reflects the international community’s confidence in Pakistan’s constructive role in advancing chemical weapons disarmament and global security.
