Pakistan reaffirms green transport vision on World Sustainable Transport Day

2 min read

Pakistan marked World Sustainable Transport Day by reiterating its commitment to building a cleaner, smarter and more resilient transport system that supports economic growth while safeguarding the environment for future generations.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the government noted that as a key regional corridor, Pakistan views its road and highway network not just as transport channels but as engines of sustainable development. The Ministry of Communications, through the National Highway Authority (NHA), is integrating eco-friendly practices, improved design standards, climate-resilient infrastructure and efficient traffic management systems across the national network.

The statement emphasized the country’s focus on developing energy-efficient highways, promoting green mobility and reducing the environmental footprint of transport operations, while ensuring safer, faster and more reliable connectivity for the public and regional partners.

The government recalled that at the recent CAREC Forum, Pakistan reaffirmed its support for the “Green and Digital CAREC” vision, stressing the need for sustainable corridors, smart transport solutions and digitally enabled infrastructure. These efforts aim to strengthen regional connectivity, lower carbon emissions and enhance climate resilience.

On the occasion, the government praised engineers, planners, workers and development partners for contributing to the modernization of Pakistan’s transport sector in line with global sustainability goals.
