1 min read

The 27th Constitutional Amendment has been approved by both the National Assembly and the Senate, with the official gazette notification issued by the Senate of Pakistan. A total of 56 amendments were passed by the two houses.

The amendment introduces significant changes affecting the judiciary, military leadership, and federal and provincial powers. Key provisions include modifications in judicial transfer powers, restructuring of the military leadership hierarchy, and the establishment of a new Federal Constitutional Court.

The draft of the amendment was first approved by the federal cabinet, and in a meeting held yesterday, the cabinet endorsed changes related to all three service chiefs and judicial laws.

Law makers said that the passage of the amendment has been described as a landmark move aimed at reforming constitutional governance, although it has also sparked debate within the judiciary and political circles regarding its broader implications.
