Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has outlined an ambitious development plan for Karachi for the fiscal year 2025–26, highlighting that 756 projects are planned to boost urban infrastructure, water services, and education across the city.
Speaking to the media, Memon said that nine major projects worth Rs 7.66 billion are nearing completion. Additionally, the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) is working on 76 projects costing Rs 13.22 billion, while the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is implementing 200 schemes at a cost of Rs 18.36 billion.
Water supply and sewerage are key priorities. The Hub Canal and Damloti pipeline projects are expected to be completed within a year, providing 10 million gallons per day (MGD) of water to DHA. The Karachi Water & Sewerage Services Improvement Project, funded by international aid, is progressing in two phases: Phase I at Rs 25.47 billion is nearly complete, and Phase II, costing Rs 167.10 billion, will revamp the city’s aging water and sewerage network.
Memon also highlighted educational initiatives. Under 130 schemes, 1,280 educational units are under construction at an estimated cost of Rs 15.57 billion, with Rs 1.88 billion already disbursed. Efforts are also underway to rehabilitate flood-affected schools across 30 districts with an investment of Rs 12.33 billion. Additionally, under a Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) program, 20 girls’ schools in five districts have been upgraded from primary to elementary level.
The minister concluded that the Karachi development plan 2025–26 comprises 713 ongoing projects, 17 carry-forward schemes, and 43 new initiatives, reflecting the provincial government’s commitment to the city’s growth and modernization.
